Canadian rapper Drake made a lot of money, and one of his winning bets was courtesy to a fellow Bitcoiner.
As the L.A. The Rams defeated the Bengals 23-20, and Canadian rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham won $381,000 in Bitcoin betting on the game.
Drake bet CAD 1.6 million using Bitcoin in the weeks preceding the big game. He staked $600,000 on the Rams to beat the Bengals in a money line wager. That winning wager netted $306,000, or 5.65 bitcoins at today’s market.
Drake’s other wagers were slightly more intriguing. Odell Beckham Jr. scoring and getting at least 62.5 yards was his $500,000 wager on Instagram.
Beckham ended up scoring the game’s first touchdown, comfortably winning Drake another $575,000. However, Beckham unwillingly left the game due to an injury and did not surpass the receiving yardage total.
Beckham, it just so happens, is a Bitcoiner. Last year, he received a $1 million Bitcoin bonus from CashApp for accumulating $4.25 million in cryptocurrencies. Even though he missed the Super Bowl, he was able to cry happy tears following his team’s victory.
Thanks to Stake, a bitcoin sportsbook, Drake had a good day despite losing his final prop bet. Instagram stories featured him before placing similar bets using the service, often for millions of Canadian dollars.
Many people who signed up for Coinbase or FTX got free Bitcoin on Sunday night, but Drake wasn’t the only one. Coinbase gave new users $15 in free Bitcoin, and FTX gave out 7.54 BTC to Twitter followers based on when its ads ran.
