The Coinbase QR code commercial during the Rams-Bengals Super Bowl LVI may have been the most imaginative. The app crashed as a result of this.
During the game, US’ leading bitcoin exchange debuted a new commercial unlike any of its previous television ads.
Among the celebrity glitz and eight-figure advertising budgets associated with Super Bowl commercials, someone always chooses the straightforward route.
During the 60-second commercial, a vibrant QR code bounces from corner to corner of your TV screen.
The one-minute commercial lacked the opulence and/or drama that one might expect from a commercial of this length. There were no individuals in it, and even the product’s name was missing.
Coinbase’s QR Code Value
Guess how much Coinbase had to pay to get the attention of the audience with its ricocheting QR code? It was approximately $13 million.
The promotion prompted people around the country to get out their iPhones and scan the code. During the Super Bowl, users who scanned the code were led to Coinbase’s advertising webpage.
Users that participate on Super Bowl Sunday will earn a free $15 Bitcoin, the crypto exchange stated on social media.
The offer is only valid till February 15th for new clients.
Shortly after the Sunday afternoon ad, many social media posts claimed Coinbase’s website had failed due to the sudden inflow of clients.
Coinbase said its website was back online after its engineers delayed access earlier in the evening due to the ad’s dissemination.
Surojit Chatterjee, Coinbase’s Chief Product Officer, said the business saw “more traffic than we have ever seen” after the QR code campaign.
The Super Bowl
Several cryptocurrency companies, like FTX and Crypto.com, used the Super Bowl to sell crypto exchanges, NFTs, and other related products.
Other businesses, including as Meta, have joined the Coinbase bandwagon. Soon after the ad aired, Meta’s Quest account tweeted its own bouncing QR code linking to a forthcoming Foo Fighters-led VR after-party.
The stalling of Coinbase’s servers was not the only issue the bitcoin exchange faced this weekend.
Coinbase paused trading on its new Advanced Trading platform on Friday afternoon after a white hat hacker discovered a flaw in its trading infrastructure.
