With over 160 Indexers and 6,000 Delegators on board, the Graph Network has been operational for three months.
Delegators protect the network by delegating to Indexers, who organize data. Indexers have been busy growing their server operations while Delegators have been busy getting to know the Indexers. Indexers and Delegators created over $4.3 billion TVL in community and network activity with over 2.7 billion GRT staked and delegated.
Debate and vote on the first set of governance recommendations utilizing Radicle’s newly adopted Graph Improvement Proposal (GIP) approach. Achieving this milestone has boosted the community’s confidence as well as the network’s supply side. Within the following month, The Graph’s hosted service will begin moving production subgraphs.
Three Primary Steps of The Graph’s Mainnet Migration
Migration Bootstrapping, Production Dapps, and Curation Live are the three primary steps of The Graph’s mainnet migration.
Bootstrapping
The first phase of the migration is bootstrapping. Indexers and Delegators help index on-chain data to serve apps on Web3 (the decentralized Internet). In order to deliver queries, each Indexer has its own pricing model and profit and loss statement. Indexers will begin synchronizing new subgraphs and setting parameters to best meet application demands as we prepare for migration.
The Graph Foundation will aim to ensure that subgraphs have a smooth transition to the decentralized network. Starting April 1st, the team will collaborate with Indexers and subgraph developers to publish and test an initial set of subgraphs on the mainnet. Thus, to ensure a smooth transfer, the team will first engage closely with a group of Migration Partners. A rigorous migration process is essential to ensure that dapps continue to perform properly with the larger community of Indexers.
Dapps Production
Phase 2 of Dapps Production has begun. Basic subgraph synchronization might take anywhere from a few hours to many weeks prior to Migration Bootstrapping. Migration Partners will test their dapps live on the network after the subgraphs sync fully. For Indexers and Delegators to query their dapps, they’ll have to pay query fees after passing a QA process.
Curation Live
Curation Live is Phase 3. A public Gateway will allow users to easily publish subgraphs and pay query charges in GRT after the network’s initial Migration Partners launched. The Gateway and a set of commodities expect to become live 30-60 days after Phase 1 ends.
The Graph Network, as previously mentioned, employs state channels to deliver scalable micropayments to Web3. To ensure quick access to the network, gateways will scatter geographically around the world. Dapp developers will be able to customize parameters to select the best Indexers for their apps and establish rate limitations. Developers will give further information about these features in the weeks leading up to their release.
Additionally, developers can now self-publish subgraphs to the decentralized network without permission, and curators can signal on subgraphs.
Curation will allow non-technical and technical users of The Graph to signal on subgraphs, creating a global and decentralized curation market. Subgraph developers will be able to easily move subgraphs from the hosted service at this time.
The developers are ecstatic about the early commitment of Indexers, Delegators, and Curators to The Graph Network. While installing decentralized infrastructure takes longer than regular software, the effort is well worth it.
The team is laying the groundwork for the next generation of human coordination by working together. Therefore, in a fairer and more open crypto economy, people from all around the world can offer their abilities.
